From September 2006 until approximately April 2008 I will be on the island of Sint Maarten studying medicine at the American Univesity of the Caribbean.  The following pictures are a few I took during my first week of inhabitance on this unique island.  The island is divided in two: Sint Maarten, which is a Dutch kingdom, and St. Martin, a part of France and hence formally recognized as part of the European Union.  I live in Sint Maarten, where the university is located.  I hope to add more pics to this section as time progresses.

At the top of Fort Louis, the sun was hidden in the clouds, so there wasn't much light for this picture. Also, the weather was extremely hot and humid at the top fo the fort.
